2025-27 State Budget Recap
Advocates were successful in securing ongoing direct payments and a first-time investment of state general purpose revenue to support child care. A bipartisan budget agreement reached between Gov. Tony Evers and state Legislative leadership included $110 million in ongoing direct provider payments through June 30, 2026, along with a first-time $65 million investment in an elementary school readiness program for 4-year-olds in child care.
With the $65 million in GPR, Wisconsin joins a vast majority of other states in investing state revenue for child care beyond what’s required because of federal funding. Gov. Evers ultimately signed the budget in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 3.
